TMJ Pain

The TMJ connects your jawbone to your skull and acts like a sliding hinge. Disorders can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. Severe cases of TMJ disorders can cause headaches.

Symptoms of TMJ Pain

Symptoms include pain or tenderness of the jaw, aching pain around the ear, difficulty chewing or pain while chewing, locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth, and clicking sound or grating sensation when you open your mouth or chew.

Common Causes of TMJ Pain Include:

  • Disk Erosion: Movement out of its proper alignment.
  • Joint Damage: Due to arthritis or other degenerative conditions.
  • Injury: To the jaw or head.
  • Muscle Tension: From stress or jaw clenching.
