Symptoms of Degenerative Disc Disease

Symptoms vary but often include chronic pain in the lower back or neck, pain that radiates to the arms or legs, numbness or tingling in the extremities, and weakness in the affected areas. Pain often worsens with sitting, bending, lifting, or twisting.

Common Causes of Degenerative Disc Disease Include:

  • Poor mechanics: bending and lifting the wrong way repeatedly.
  • Injury: Trauma to the spine.
  • Genetics: A family history of spine problems.
  • Overuse: Repetitive movements or heavy lifting.
  • Smoking: Which can reduce blood flow to the discs.
