Symptoms include pain that worsens with movement, stiffness, loss of range of motion, and visible deformity in severe cases. Some patients may also experience muscle weakness, numbness, and a tingling sensation down the arm.
Common Causes of Shoulder Pain Include:
- Rotator Cuff Injuries: A tear in one or more of the tendons that make up the rotator cuff (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis), or a tear in the cartilage that attaches to the shoulder socket.
- Dislocation: When the upper arm bone pops out of the shoulder socket.
- Arthritis: Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other forms of arthritis.
- Tendonitis: Inflammation of the shoulder tendons, often due to overuse.
